United Arts Council of Catawba County Launches 23rd Annual Mercedes Gala

Tickets are now on sale for the 23rd Mercedes Gala, conducted annually by the United Arts Council of Catawba County and chaired this year by Karen Rose. The raffle and silent auction event will be held on Monday night, December 7, 2009, at Lake Hickory Country Club in Hickory


At the end of the evening, one ticket holder will be the owner of a 2010 Mercedes-Benz automobile, purchased through the generosity of Hendrick Motors of Hickory.



Doors will open at 5:30 PM for the event, which will feature the specialties of several local restaurants. The evening will also include a silent auction that will include artwork provided by local artists and businesses. The auction and drawing will begin at 6 PM.


Funds raised through the United Arts Council Mercedes Gala go to support the Council and its 56 member organizations through project grants and operating support. Proceeds from the silent auction will be granted to artists through the Council’s Innovative Artist Project Grant.



Tickets, at $100 each, are available through the United Arts Council of Catawba County office at 828/324-4906 or on line at http://www.artscatawba.org/. Each ticket admits two people to the party at which heavy hors d’oeuvres and beverages are provided.

THE OFFICIAL LIGHTING OF CHRISTMAS TOWN USA
McAdenville, “Christmas Town USA” will hold it’s annual lighting ceremony on December 1, 2009The ceremony takes place at the McAdenville Community Center starting at 4:00 pm. The "big" switch is pulled about 5:15 pm to start another Christmas Town USA season. The lights glow nightly through December 26.

Festivities will include Christmas carols performed by children from Shuford and Lyle Creek Elementary Schools, lighting of the tree, free hot cider and coffee with a special appearance by Santa!

ALEXANDER COUNTY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE CHRISTMAS PARADE
The annual Christmas parade sponsored by the Alexander County Chamber of Commerce will be held in downtown Taylorsville, NC, on Saturday, December 5 at 3:00.

HICKORY HOLIDAY PARADE
The Hickory Jaycees will sponsor the Hickory Holiday Parade on Saturday, December 5, at 4:00 p.m. The parade route travels through downtown Hickory. Entry forms for the parade may be found on line at http://www.hickoryjc.org/.

CHRISTMAS IN DENVER
The East Lincoln Betterment Association and Lincoln County are sponsoring a Denver community Christmas event, including a first ever Denver Christmas Parade and a community wide Christmas Tree Lighting. The event is scheduled for Saturday December 5, 2009.

NC SYMPHONY HOLIDAY CONCERT
The NC Symphony Holiday Concert will be held Tuesday, December 8, 2009 at 7 PM at the Statesville Civic Center.
