Overview

The 2011 BMW X6 Sports Activity Vehicle redefines the very notion of a coupe - with five doors and four sculpted seats, a higher ride and loads of cargo space. It defies coupe conventions in one jaw-dropping look, combining coupe agility and SAV versatility, taking the coupe to a higher level.

Power and performance

A turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-6 cylinder engine rated at 300 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque provides power to the xDrive 35i. An eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive are standard. The xDrive50i is powered by a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 engine rated at 400 hp and 450 lb-ft of torque. Its EPA-estimated fuel economy stands at 13 mpg city/18 mpg highway and 15 mpg combined. The BMW X6 employs BMW's proven intelligent xDrive all-wheel-drive technology with electronic control to vary the distribution of drive power between the front and rear axles, instantaneously adjusting to driving conditions.

Body and styling

The xDrive35i is equipped with 19-inch wheels, a sunroof, a power tailgate, front and rear parking sensors, automatic and adaptive bi-xenon headlights, fog lights, automatic wipers, leather upholstery, a power tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, cruise control, 10-way power front seats, driver memory functions, the iDrive electronics interface and a 10-speaker sound system with CD player, auxiliary audio jack and HD radio. The xDrive50i has 14-way "multicontour" front seats, Bluetooth system, BMW Assist emergency telematics and a navigation system with voice controls and real-time traffic. These features are optional on the 35i.

Safety Features

Stability control, antilock disc brakes, hill descent control, front-seat side airbags, side curtain airbags and active front head restraints are among the standard safety equipment. BMW's advanced Dynamic Performance Control (DPC) which greatly enhances directional stability and traction by redirecting power to individual wheels also has been included. BMW Assist emergency telematics are optional.
